As one of our first blog posts, we thought we’ll share a recipe that many people seem to want. A staple of millions of Indian breakfasts all over the world – a cup of Chai aka Masala Chai aka India Tea.

First off – yes, Chai is the Hindi word for Tea so “Chai Tea” literally translates to “Tea Tea”. Now that that’s out of the way, how do you make a hot cuppa? Easy – follow on…

Ingredients (for one cup of tea). All ingredients are available at our Grocery Store:

  • 1 spoon Tea Leaves of your brand of choice. A little more for stronger tasting tea. One of the brands that we use is Wagh Bakri.
  • About two inches of Ginger Root.
  • Pinch of Tea Masala (optional). Rani Tea Masala is an excellent choice for anyone who would like to add some to
  • their tea.
  • 1/4 Cup of Water.
  • 1 Cup of Milk.
  • Sugar to Taste.

Grate the ginger into the water. You can also slice the ginger if you are in a hurry. Add the Tea Leaves, the Sugar and just a pinch of the Tea Masala. Bring the mixture to a boil. Add the milk and let the tea simmer until it starts boiling. For a stronger cup of tea, bring the tea to a boil twice. Strain the tea and enjoy!

Aarti Sequeira may not have perfected cooking samosas, aka the “holy grail” of Indian food, but lucky for her, The Samosa House has a secret family recipe that keeps Aarti coming back to this restaurant and grocery store in one.
